Madhya Pradesh’s largest solar rooftop plant at LNIPE Gwalior (650 KW)

The Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) is a Government of India deemed university situated in Gwalior under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It is MP’s largest solar rooftop project installed.

The university required a solar plant to be installed, as the cost which it was initially incurring on power, was extremely high. In order to minimize the cost it resorted to solar power generation. Also their top floor was getting heated up daily so the best alternative to shield it was to install solar plant so as to avoid the direct heat.

Statcon Energiaa as per their requirements set up a 650 KW Pure Grid Tied Solar PV Power Plant which would lead to maximum power generation with the help of solar energy at peak hours and it automatically led to reduction in their costs incurred in power consumption by nearly one third.

The plant’s capacity and mechanism can be explained by net metering. In simple words it is a billing mechanism through which consumers who produce some part or the entire part of the electricity can benefit from their electricity anytime rather than at the time at which it is generated. For example, if a residential customer has a PV system on their roof, it may generate more electricity than the home uses during daylight hours. If the home is net-metered, the electricity meter will run “backwards” (not literally) to provide a credit against what electricity is consumed at night or other periods when the home’s electricity use exceeds the system’s output. Customers are only billed for their “net” energy use.
